James Galloway




Dr. James Galloway

CEO, JAS-ANZ
Dr James Galloway was appointed CEO of JAS-ANZ in 2007. His background includes roles in government affairs and technical regulation, and involvement in a range of trade and industry initiatives focussing on standards, conformity assessment and regulation. Some of the main areas he has been engaged in are the APEC Telecommunications working group and Sub-Committee on Standards and Conformity, the IEC Conformity Assessment Board, as well as domestic and Trans-Tasman trade and regulatory initiatives principally in the electrical and communications product sectors. His current role at JAS-ANZ is an extension of his interest in the often unacknowledged role of standardisation, accreditation and conformity assessment in the quality of economic and social life.

Kevin Foley

Professor Kevin Foley

National Patron
Kevin Foley is an economist with a Ph. D from the Australian National University. He is a former Air Force officer, Member of Parliament, Member of the Board of the Commonwealth Scientific and Industrial Research Organization (CSIRO), Chairman of the Australian Research and Development Board, and Vice Chairman of Standards Australia. Kevin was Foundation Professor of Economics at Bond University, has been a Member of University Council (La Trobe), Visiting Professor at Monash University, University of Melbourne and the University of Versailles. Kevin presently holds professorial appointments in the Faculty of Business, University of Technology, Sydney, Centre for Management Quality Research, Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology, University, and is a member of four national standards development committees and is an Australian representative to the International Organization for Standardization (ISO).

Professor John Dalrymple

Professor John Dalrymple

John Dalrymple began his professional career as a physicist, graduating as the first physics graduate of the University of Stirling in Scotland. He then moved to the University of Strathclyde in Glasgow to undertake Doctoral research in the field of wastewater treatment. After teaching Applied Physics for a time, John then moved back to the University of Stirling to the Management Science Department where he taught in the quantitative methods and materials science area
As a management academic, John began to work on projects with industry, taking a keen interest in the manufacturing sector. Here he worked on problems in manufacturing logistics and developed an interest in quality management. Along with colleagues, John established the Scottish Quality Management Centre at the University of Stirling to underpin the teaching and consultancy activities of the Department with research in the field of quality management. He has worked on a wide range of problems and was awarded more than 1 million pounds sterling to conduct research in companies in areas related to quality management. The Scottish Quality Management Centre was designated a Centre of Excellence in 1993 under his Direction.
John appointed to the Computing Devices Professorship of Quality Management and Directorship of the Centre for Management Quality Research at RMIT in November 1997. John was heavily involved with an exciting research project that was designed to improve the competitiveness of the Small Medium Enterprise sector through comparison with International competitors.

Dr. Michael Court

Dr. Michael Court

Dr Court is the Managing Director of Balanced Scorecard Australia. His paper will outline the current evolution of the balanced scorecard methodology in Australia and its penetration into different sectors of the economy. He will focus in particular on current applications of the balanced scorecard methodology in local governments in Australia and the relationships of these applications to traditional approaches to quality management.

Mike consults to executive and management teams in determining the strategic arena which they operate and how to respond, grow and improve the organisation. He develops strategic and tactical plans to be implemented within client operations with his unique “Plan-on-a-Page” workshop schematics, to capture the strategic intent to deploy, engage and communicate such plans to all stakeholders.
Mike’s facilitation skills have been utilised across many industry sectors including automotive OEM’s; banking; automotive parts and product suppliers; insurance; transport; mining; minerals and government. He works in diverse cultures including Middle East, Europe, SE Asia, Pacific Islands and PNG.
Mike has delivered Australian and international keynote addresses and papers; co-authored two Continual Improvement reference books and Q-Skills Interactive Software. He has a deep understanding of the GM / Yazaki / Toyota Production systems.

It administers a number of doctorate programmes. Commercial Director and Founder of BPIR.com is a leading Internet resource for sharing best practice and benchmarking information. It has more than 6,000 members worldwide
Chairman of the Global Benchmarking Network , he is also advisory board member of e-TQM College in Dubai.
 
Nigel Griggs

A/Prof. Nigel Grigg

Nigel Grigg is Associate Professor (Quality Systems) in Massey University’s School of Engineering and Advanced Technology (SEAT). He leads Massey’s Graduate Diploma, Postgraduate Diploma and Master of Quality Systems programmes. He is a Chartered Quality Professional, a member of the Chartered Quality Institute and the Institute of Directors, a senior member of the American Society for Quality and currently President of the New Zealand Organisation for Quality.
His teaching and research interests include quality and performance improvement, and the use of statistical thinking and methods within continuous improvement and industrial research. He has written or co-written over 80 journal and conference papers on various aspects of quality management and business excellence, three of which have received best paper awards. In 2004 he was awarded the National Award for best thesis related to quality from the Chartered Quality Institute. He has provided consultancy and in-house training to organisations in New Zealand, Europe and Asia in the areas of total quality, quality management systems, continuous operational/organisational improvement, performance measurement and strategy deployment. He is a regular speaker at national and international quality conferences and has given public courses and seminars.

Barry Lacy

Barry Lacy

After initial qualification as an Industrial Chemist, Barry had 13 years of technical & supply management experience in the paper, personal care products, and printing industries.
He spent the next ten years as a Consultant, including six years with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC). As a Principal Consultant specialising in procurement and strategic sourcing, he worked across the Asia-Pacific region, and led teams on major projects with Posco (Korea) and The Walt Disney Company (Asia-Pacific).
Currently working at the Department of Infrastructure, Barry has responsibility for the development of procurement skills and capability across the department, and is the Manager of the Department’s Accredited Purchasing Unit. His key role is to advise contract managers on the regulatory requirements of the tenders and contracts they are entering into, and to represent the Department on whole of Government procurement forums.
In collaboration with the DOI Risk Manager, Barry has written a white paper (published by CIPSA), entitled “Risky business – an introduction to procurement risk

Started working within “quality” in the pharmaceutical industry in 1990 and moved to the automotive industry in 1992, working for a number of automotive suppliers as Quality Manager.
In 2005 made the move out of automotive and into Computershare and branched out into the field of Risk Management and OH&S. Currently in charge of coordinating Business Continuity Planning and Disaster recovery activities for all Computershare business units in Australia.
 
Shan Ruprai

Shan Ruprai

President Elect of AOQ Inc. senior advisor to the AOQ NSW Board of Directors.
He is the President of Asia Pacific Quality Organisation and the Chairman of the Australian Institute of Business Improvement.
Shan is Board member of the Accreditation review of JAS-ANZ. He has also served on the advisory boards of International Certification Bodies.
He was the Chairman of WSAA-QAN (37 major government owned water utilities of Australia) for 10 years. Shan had active input in revising ISO Standard 9001:2008 via QR/8 and QR/2. He had active input in designing and implementing the NSW (Australia) Government Quality Assurance Policy that was launched by the Deputy Premier in 1993.
Shan has in-depth experience both in public and private sectors specialising in Quality, Risk Management, OHS&R, EMS, Process Re-engineering, Lean Six Sigma, Corporatisation, Restructuring, Best Practice, Benchmarking, Contract Law, Balanced Scorecard, Business and Strategic Planning.
Shan has delivered many papers on a variety of management topics. Shan’s achievements have been acknowledged in the print media with over 82 articles in the Press. Shan is decorated with the Juran Medal.

Mark Sullivan

Mark Sullivan

Mr Sullivan was previously Secretary of the Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA) and President of the Repatriation Commission and Chair of the Military Rehabilitation and Compensation Commission (2004-2008).

Before being appointed Secretary of DVA, Mr Sullivan was Secretary of the Department for Family and Community Services (2002-2004), Chief Executive Officer of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Commission (1999-2002), and Deputy Secretary at the Department of Immigration and Multicultural Affairs. He has extensive senior managerial experience in both the private and public service sectors including WANG Australia, SBS, the Department of Social Security and the Australian Taxation Office.

Mr Sullivan received an Australian Centenary Medal in 2003 and he was made an Officer of the Order of Australia in 2008. This recognition was for his work in multicultural affairs, in indigenous affairs, community services and with veterans.
